CDC Recommends Three New Shots!

CDC Recommends Three New Immunizations for Children
"New shots for your child" in the "Kid's Health" section of the October 2006 issue of "Parenting" magazine noted that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends three new immunizations for children. The first is a second dose of the chicken pox (varicella) vaccine for children 4-6 years old. The second is a recommendation that 3 and 4 year olds should be vaccinated for the flu along with others at risk. The third is a three shot Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) series for 11 and 12 year old girls to help prevent cervical cancer. Talk with your doctor for more information. You can also view press releases from the CDC at the following links:

Today we went to obtain our fingerprints for the 2nd time. They lost our application and offered no accomodation. It was tiring driving in rush hour traffic to get there at 8 AM no less! Steve and I have completed our shots for China and are ready to go but our baby will need shots no doubt!

Good Progress by CCAA! Yeah!

The CCAA was updated last night, and they have done well this cycle, accomplishing 18 days worth of matchings. Their announcement states that CCAA "has finished the placement of children for the families whose adoption application documents were registered with our office before August 9, 2005." This brings CCAA processing almost to within a month of our own "registration" (= "log-in") date! Can we hope for our referal at this time in November??

VOICE FROM THE EAST - LU LAN'S BIBLICAL PAINTINGS

The Last Supper (with dumplings and tea!)

Today we visited Will Scott's church St. John's McLean. The St. John's Church Committee on the Arts was delighted to share the biblical paintings of Chinese American artist Lu Lan. The exhibit was seen in the Upper Floor Gallery and is available from August 28 through November 3. Lu Lan was born in Nanjing, Mainland China, in 1972, where she grew up in a family that encouraged her pursuit of the arts in her work and study. Her mother is also an artist. She graduated from Najing College of Arts with a Bachelor's degree. After graduation she worked for the Amity Christian Art Center for five years and spent most of her spare time doing Biblical Story Painting. She has been influenced by Chinese traditional pattern, form and style, and also by some of the Chinese minority art. In these paintings she uses bright colors, vivid images and traditional costumes, which convey a Chinese message in visual context. Lu Lan has attended locally Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., where she received a Master of Theological Studies in Religion and Art in May 2002. She has had an Artist-in-Residence Fellowship at the Henry Luce III Center for Art and Religion at Welsey. Her work was The First Chinese Christian Art Exhibition in China.
