Teaching a Baby to Walk!

Rembrandt's Drawing of a Child Learning to Walk

My colleague here at VTS, Peggy Parker, just gave me copies of some Rembrandt drawings of women teaching a toddler to walk. This one is from 1640, and is now in the British Museum. The holding of the wrists and the bending over is very true to life. Note the unique "crash helmet" that they have on the baby!

Getting the Official Adoption Photo

Catherine has been going through hundreds of great photos from China taken by Janelle and Edmund, which they've generously shared with us through RitzPix. Among many treasures, she found this one, which Janelle shot while Rebecca, Catherine and I were getting our offical photo in the civil affairs office in Chongqing city:

Rebecca's First See-Saw Ride

See Saw

Back to the present, and our new life together. Here is Rebecca enjoying a see-saw ride with a new friend at the Lee Street park on the Potomac River.

The Jade Shop

Back in China, on March 3, 2007, on the way to see the Great Wall, we stopped at a very nice government authorized Jade shop. Cathy and I have been uploading our china photos to Ritz Pix, and I came across this lovely shot of a piece of artwork that we saw at the shop:

Barker-China Dim Sum

Dim Sum at Fortune Restaurant

Last Sunday we joined the Barker-China group for Dim Sum at Fortune Restaurant at Seven Corners. A good time was had by all, and Rebecca got to see several babies who had come home from China before she did. We speculated on when the next Barker travel group will go to China, but no one was quite sure.
